The Friends of St Mark

"The Friends" was formed in 1984 to give impetus to parish fund raising, to arrange social events, and to support other parish organisations. The group aims to provide the stipend for the musician at the 8.30 am Sunday service.

Annual events organised by the Friends include an Australia Day stall, a pancake night on Shrove Tuesday, a fish and chips evening at Mooloolaba, a mid-year Gourmet (Curry) Lunch, and an end-of-year dinner. The social events enable parishioners to meet others who attend different services.

This is a happy, friendly group which is always looking for new members. Contact the church office if you are interested.

Mothers' Union

The Mothers' Union (MU) is a worldwide Anglican movement whose aim is to strengthen and preserve family life. MU was founded by an Englishwoman, Mary Sumner, in 1876.

St Mark's branch of MU is one of the most active in the Diocese of Brisbane. Its members ensure that every child baptised at St Mark's is given a handmade teddy and the parents receive a Gospel of Luke. Members of MU help run the Mainly Music playgroup and provide morning tea for the parents and children who come. MU maintains a casserole bank for sick members of the congregation.

Money raised through membership dues, selling of greeting cards and occasional functions goes towards outreach work in the Northern Territory and the provision of a chaplain for Spiritus (the welfare arm of the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane).

Ladies Guild

This is a fellowship group which meets regularly to plan special functions and fund raising events. The Guild comprises of women of all ages who generously work to further the mission of the Church.
