Pastoral Care
Here at St Mark’s Pastoral Care is a very important component in the Ministry of the Church. It is there to respond to the spiritual and emotional concerns experienced by the congregation and those who care for them. It is there for the healing of the soul by creating an environment of love, hope and trust. Ultimately it is there for the purpose of sharing ourselves with God and coming together at the Lord’s table
Areas of Pastoral Care available.
- Communion in homes given by Liturgical Assistants
- Spiritual visitations to Anglicans at Sunshine Coast Private Hospital
- Visits to the sick and those unable to go out
- Monthly healing service in the Chapel
A dedicated team of volunteers give lovingly of their time and talents in these areas. We would welcome those who feel they may have a ministry here. Please see Fr Richard if you would care to help.
Flower Guild
The Flower Guild consists of seven committed and creative women, who love being able to use their talents to add to the worship at St Mark's. God encourages us to delight in his creation, and so we choose from the lush foliage of our gardens every week to create the floral arrangements that beautify our church and enrich our liturgies. We arrange flowers to praise God in the weekly services, to give joy and happiness at weddings, to bring hope and comfort at funerals and to give all who enter St Mark's a moment to pause and contemplate the divine. It is a real privilege to serve God and St Mark's in this way, and we give thanks that we are able to do so. If you would like to be part of this ministry we would warmly welcome you. Cursillo
Make a friend -Be a friend -Bring that friend to Jesus
The first Cursillo or short course was conducted in the late 1940's. By the mid 1950's the main outline of the Cursillo method had been developed and refined in Majorca. After the movement spread through the mainland of Spain, it moved to the Spanish speaking South America and finally to North America in 1957, first in Spanish, then in English. By the mid 1970's the Episcopal Church in the United States of America and the Anglican Church in Canada had embraced the movement and given it an Anglican flavour whilst retaining all that is fundamental and basic to the original concept. From Canada the movement was introduced into Australia. The first Anglican Cursillo Weekends in Australia were held in September and October 1979 in Goulburn NSW at Bishopthorpe Conference Centre. Cursillo is now a world-wide movement with centres in nearly all South and Central American countries, the USA, Canada, Mexico, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Great Britain, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Yugoslavia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, The Philippines, Sri Lanka and in several African countries. Like wild flowers about Jesus' feet, Flowers similar to here, The Flowers of the Holy Spirit ignite a Cursillo parish here, and then a parish there.
St Mark’s Tapestry Group
St Mark’s Tapestry Group began 7th December 1994 (a month after Fr Richard’s arrival). It was decided to meet by 2011 on the first Friday of each month as we are such a small number. In 2011 we completed 175 pew cushions. All the cushions have the name of the embroiderer on the underside together with the name of the emblem represented and the date the cushion was completed. All of these have been worked with love and for the Glory of God in this beautiful church. If you would like to join this ministry for fellowship and to create a wonderful piece of artwork for our Church please come along or contact Dell Smith on 5445 5423
Sunday 8.30am Singing Group
Sixteen years ago this group started with one singer and quickly grew to an enthusiastic group providing a mix of traditional and modern music to suit the tempo of the 8.30 family service. We have had some wonderful musicians and singers over the years: some professional and some amateurs, but we all sing for the joy of it and because we can add depth and richness to the morning Eucharist. Children love to join us at the end of the service to play a variety of musical instruments, and we enjoy watching the happiness on the faces of the congregation as they leave the church. Leopold Stokowski said “Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life” and we know when we praise God in music and song we are richly blessed. We can raise the rafters in triumphant praise, but also evoke a time for quiet adoration and contemplation. To be able to offer back to God some of the talents he has given us is a privilege and a delight. If you feel singing is part of your life and you would like to join us in this ministry, please contact Margie Gowty phone 5442 1283 or mobile 0479 085 555.

Buderim SAILS
Buderim SAILS at the Green House (168 Lindsay Rd Buderim) is a Diocesan program. It consists of a group of volunteers attempting to find Christian responses to the difficulties of people in disadvantaged and marginalised groups. We have a particular interest in Indigenous reconciliation, disability, care of the frail aged, and community building. SAILS has been asked by the B150 committee to organize the Indigenous and Kanaka component of the events marking 150 years since first white contact on Buderim. This includes organizing historical research, arranging displays of historical material, providing written and digital promotional and educational material to newspapers and schools, organizing gatherings of elders, recording oral histories, a reunion etc. Sails runs programs with disabled men. The activities include land care, craft, sharing meals, worship, meditation, and community access. The men help make holding crosses which are distributed by chaplains at the Nambour Hospital and rustic Aussie Crosses which are used in RE at the Buderim School. These crosses have also been used in house and land blessings, placed on graves, at massacre sites at battlefields and pilgrimage places around the world. They also made handmade paper and greeting cards. The Green House is part of Buderim Forest Nature Reserve. We are keen environmentalists and conservationists and enthusiastic about growing native plants. We are providing advice on and assisting with the restoring of the green triangle at the church to its natural state. We host a seminar for spiritual seekers led by Patrick Oliver. We have a monthly community day to which everyone is welcome. Contact H Johnston heatherbj@gmail.com
