The Very Rev’d C G Whittall OAM will be Locum of the Parish until the appointment of a new Parish Priest.
Father Chris was ordained in the Diocese of Bathurst in 1980, and has served as Rector of Bourke, Lecturer in Biblical Studies at St John’s Theological College Morpeth, and Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral Rockhampton. From 2010 to 2012 he was Researcher and Chaplain to the Primate of the Church in Wales. Fr Chris has also held short secondments on the staff of Truro Cathedral Cornwall, and as Acting Dean of Chapel and Fellow of Queens’ College Cambridge.
He is married to Gillian, a secondary school teacher of English and History. They have a son who lives in Brisbane with his wife and their two adorable children. On early retirement in 2012 Gillian and Chris moved to their 2.5 acre property in Maleny, where Fr Chris had two years as Locum of the Parish of Maleny.
He holds the degrees of Bachelor of Arts (Macquarie University), Bachelor of Divinity (Melbourne College of Divinity), Master of Arts (Sydney University, for a thesis on Arnold Lomas Wylde, the ‘Red Book’ Bishop), and Master of Sacred Theology in Spiritual Direction (General Theological Seminary New York). In 2007 Fr Chris was awarded the Order of Australia for the multi-million dollar restoration of St Paul’s Cathedral, and as Chair of the Central Queensland Regional Health Authority, Trustee of the Rockhampton Art Gallery, and a member of the Capricornia Electricity Board.
