Children, Youth and Families at St Mark’s

Our parish family includes an increasing number of families with children. The inclusion of these children in worship is of great importance. We welcome children to worship by:

  • Providing a children’s ministry programme during worship each Sunday;
  • Encouraging families to bring their children of all ages to worship. Children are an important and welcomed part of our worshipping community;
  • Providing a play area for infants and toddlers at the back of the Church;
  • Encouraging older children to participate in worship and as readers when old enough;
  • Encouraging parents to take their children outside or to the Hall for a break whenever needed;
  • Providing a children’s ministry time during the 8.30am service and having picture and storybooks, and colouring-in materials in the children’s area at the back of the Church;
  • Modelling appropriate church behaviour for children by teaching them to stand, sit, or kneel with the congregation. An effective teaching method to encourage focus is to gradually lengthen the time a child remains in church.

Sunday School – 8.30 am Sundays

Sunday School is held every Sunday during the 8.30am service. Children begin the service with the whole congregation and then go out to the Hall after the opening hymn, prayers and a short children’s talk. They re-join the congregation in time for communion.

Parents are most welcome to attend Sunday school with their children if they wish. They may wish to attend the first few times to settle their children or they may wish to attend from time to time to assist with crafts and games.

Messy Church – 4 times a year on a Sunday afternoon

Messy Church is a creative way of “being church” for families involving fun, games, craft activities, a short time of prayer together and a meal.

We aim to hold at least four Messy Church afternoons each year, and would love to hold more. You will be welcome, whatever your age, if you would like to come and experience what happens at Messy Church.

Life is messy and God is to be found working at the messy edges.

Mainly Music – 9.30 am Wednesdays in the Hall

Mainly Music is a music program designed to help children 0-5 yrs develop skills to enhance their learning through the use of music, rhythm, rhyme, movement, listening and more. Children also have the opportunity to create their own play, whilst giving parents the chance to have a chat over a cuppa.
